Easy Banana Nut Bread Recipe
This simple 4 ingredient banana nut bread recipe is an excellent choice for baby-led weaning, thanks to the simplicity and simple ingredients used. With only four ingredients—ripe bananas, almond flour, baking powder, and eggs—this recipe offers a nutritious option without any added sugar.
The individual portions are perfect for portion control, ensuring your little one enjoys just the right amount at each meal, while also making them easy to freeze for future use.
This versatile easy 4-ingredient banana bread not only satisfies little appetites but also introduces a fluffy texture and flavours, which is a great way for a fantastic all-rounder for your baby's diet, using basic ingredients.
Can I Substitute Almond Flour For Regular Flour
Substituting almond flour for regular flour in this healthy banana bread recipe is not advisable, as it can significantly alter the taste and texture of the final dish.
Almond flour has a distinct nutty flavour and a different moisture content, compared to regular flour. You can always use oat flour or coconut flour as alternatives; both can offer a more compatible flavour profile while still allowing for a nutritious twist in your baby-led weaning recipes.
Almonds and Benefits
Almonds are a nutritious choice for babies, offering healthy fats, protein, and essential vitamins such as vitamin E, which supports immune function and skin health. They are also a good source of fibre, promoting digestive health.
However, whole almonds are a choking hazard for young children, so it’s important to serve them safely. For babies from six months old, finely ground almond flour is a perfect way to add into porridge or homemade baby biscuits such as this recipe.
Almonds can also be served as almond butter spread thinly on soft bread or fruit, or blended into smoothies for a creamy texture.
Always ensure that any almond products are free from added sugars or salt for the healthiest option. Look for 100% nut options.
Almond Flour vs Coconut Flour
Almond flour and coconut flour each offer unique benefits for baby-led weaning that can enhance your little one's diet. Almond flour is rich in healthy fats, vitamin E, and magnesium, making it a nutritious choice that supports brain development and overall growth.
Its naturally nutty flavour can add depth to homemade recipes, encouraging little ones to explore new tastes. On the other hand, coconut flour is high in dietary fibre, which aids digestion and promotes a healthy gut.
It has a subtle sweetness that can make meals more appealing, perfect for babies adjusting to different flavours. Incorporating both flours into your baby’s meals can provide a variety of nutrients, textures, and flavours that can make the weaning process enjoyable and beneficial.
Ingredient information
Almond flour - This is a great flour to use within baby led weaning recipes if your baby does not have a nut allergy of course. Coconut flour is another great flour to use in recipes for babies. Feel free to switch to oat flour if your baby has a nut allergy. Self-raising flour or all purpose flour does not work so well in this recipe, so go with the suggestions above.
Egg - I have used 2 free range eggs. I have weighed the eggs in the shells to determine the measurements of the banana and almond flour. So your measurements may be a little different to mine,
Banana - The banana adds sweetness to the delicious banana bread recipe that the recipe needs. For best results use overripe bananas for the recipe for flavour (the ones with the brown spots). You could switch to apple puree or apple sauce if you wish for banana allergies.
Baking powder - I have used baking powder as the banana nut bread needs a raising agent.
Serving suggestion
The easy banana bread recipe would be great served with almond butter or peanut butter, slice them in half and spread each side with a little almond butter.
You could serve this easy recipe with fresh fruit such as blueberries, strawberries or raspberries.

Storage instructions
Store the banana nut bread in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
The banana nut bread can be frozen in an airtight container or in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. You can separate the homemade banana bread using parchment paper. Or you can wrap in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. Make sure they are cooled to room temperature before transferring to the container.
Be sure to label the freezer bags with the item and date, so it is clear how long they can be stored.
To label the airtight container I use masking tape this way it will not ruin the airtight container.
To defrost the 4-ingredient banana bread recipe, keep them in an airtight container and defrost in the fridge overnight. Make sure they are fully defrosted before serving.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Silicone moulds - https://amzn.to/47XLxuE
Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
