These apple oat slices are so delicious and so easy to make.
All you will need is one mixing bowl and it is just the case where all you will need to do is mix everything together and bake. Those are my kind of recipes!
Cooking the apple and blitzing the oats in a nutri bullet are the only parts that may take you some time to do, but these can be done ahead of time if you so wish to speed up the mixing and baking time.
I always line the 9x9 inch baking tin, as it is always so much easier to remove the cake from the tin this way. I always make sure I have baking parchment in the cupboard.

Ingredient information
Oats - We go through so many oats in a week, they can be used for so many recipes and work perfectly in this one!
Whole milk - You could use oat milk or almond milk as a dairy free alternative.
Egg - I use free range eggs, but you can use a hen’s egg of your choice.
Cinnamon - if you had nutmeg you could substitute cinnamon for nutmeg, but only use 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.
Baking powder - A touch of baking powder to give these slices some rise.
Apple - I have chosen a bramley apple as they are so sweet and work perfectly in cakes and crumbles.
Unsalted butter - You could use some vegetable oil instead for greasing.
Serving suggestion
This slice is great served on its own, but if you did want to serve it with anything I would serve with a dollop of natural Greek style yogurt. Or you could serve with a mango pot, or you could serve with a baked banana as a substantial snack.
Storage instructions
The good news is the slices can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Alternatively you can freeze the slices in freezer bags or an airtight container for later use for up to 3 months.
To defrost the slices all you will need to do is take what you need out of the freezer and thaw in the fridge over night. Check they are fully defrosted and they are ready to serve. Store any unfinished pieces in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Nutri Bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.
Mixing bowl - I like to use a stainless steel mixing bowl - they are usually lightweight and easy to clean.
9x9 inch baking tin - I prefer to use metal non-stick cake pans and this one is a heavy duty one. Could be used for roasting vegetables as well as baking cakes for your little ones.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
Recipe | Apple Oat Slices
Ingredients
Makes 20 slices
160g rolled oats
250ml whole milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 Bramley apple, sliced and cored
10g Unsalted butter ( for greasing )
Instructions
Start by pre heating your oven to 180 C or 350 F.
Grease a 9x9 inch baking tin using unsalted butter, and line the bottom of the tin with baking parchment.
Take your oats and place in a food processor and blitz in a Nutri Bullet for a few minutes until you get a flour like consistency. Set aside.
Place your peeled and cored apple sliced into a saucepan with a good splash of water, cover and cook on a medium heat for 15 minutes. They should be an over cooked mushy consistency.
Next, take a large mixing bowl, pop in all of the ingredients and mix until combined.
Pop the mixture into the prepared baking tin, sprinkle with extra rolled oats and cinnamon if you like, and pop in the oven for 25-30 minutes.
Leave to cool in the tin, turn out on a work surface and cut into squares.

Recipe notes
You could use gluten free oats if you wanted to make the recipe completely gluten free! You could also swap out the apple for 1 medium mashed banana if you preferred for a banana style taste!
