Can My Baby Eat Greek Yogurt?

Absolutely! Greek yogurt can be a fantastic addition to your baby's BLW (Baby-Led Weaning) journey. Packed with protein, calcium, and probiotics, Greek yogurt provides a nutritious and creamy option for your little one to explore.

When introducing Greek yogurt to your baby, opt for plain, whole milk varieties to avoid added sugars and unnecessary additives. You can serve it on its own or mix it with fruit or vegetables to create a tasty and nutrient-rich meal.

Be sure to observe your baby for any signs of allergies and introduce new foods one at a time to monitor their reactions. Enjoy watching your little one delight in these cherry hearts for Valentine’s day recipe!

Is Hazelnut butter Ok For My Baby?

Certainly! Hazelnut butter can be a delicious and nutritious addition to your baby's diet. However, it's important to introduce it with caution.

Hazelnuts are a common allergen, so be sure to check for any family history of nut allergies before offering it to your baby. When you do introduce hazelnut butter, be mindful of the texture to ensure it is appropriate for your baby's age and developmental stage.

Smooth, creamy hazelnut butter can be a good option for spreading on toast or mixing into porridge, while whole or chunky varieties may pose a choking hazard for infants. It is best to pick an 100% smooth nut butter with no added oil, sugar or salt.

Can I Give My Baby Cherries?

It's important to wait until your baby is at least 6 months old before introducing cherries into their diet.

Cherries are a common allergen and can pose a choking hazard due to their small size and slippery texture. Once your baby is ready, you can offer them pitted, finely chopped cherries to minimise the risk of choking.

Cherries are a delicious and nutritious snack packed with vitamin C, great for toddlers and older children, but it's crucial to exercise caution when serving to your baby.

    Introducing Puff Pastry to Babies

As a general guideline, it's advisable to introduce puff pastry to babies around 6 months of age. By this time, most babies have started eating solid foods.

Check their chewing and swallowing abilities have developed sufficiently before serving. When introducing puff pastry, it's crucial to ensure that the pastry is cut into manageable pieces to prevent choking hazards.

Additionally, it's recommended to check the ingredients for potential allergens such as nuts or dairy.

    Storage instructions

The cherry tarts can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, if stored in an airtight container.

If you wanted to freeze the the cherry tarts, you will need to get yourself a freezer bag or an airtight container. Make sure that which ever you choose are labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container. The cherry tarts will store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

To defrost the cherry tarts, leave in the fridge overnight to defrost and make sure it is fully defrosted, before serving.

Once the cherry tarts have been defrosted you will not be able to re freeze.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Baking Sheet - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.

Heart shape cutters - I am always on the lookout for different shaped food cutters for my baby led weaning recipes - they make meal and snack times fun for the little ones. These cutters easily cut through cookie dough and are easy to clean.

    Makes at least 10

    • Half a (320g) pack ready rolled puff pastry (ready-made pie dough)

    • 15 fresh cherries, halved and de-stoned

    • 3 tablespoons natural Greek style yogurt

    • 1 teaspoon hazelnut butter

    Instructions

    1. Pre heat oven to 180C or 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (you could use aluminum foil).

    2. Place the yogurt in a large bowl, place the hazelnut butter in a separate small bowl and gently heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds, until a smooth runny consistency.

    3. Add the hazelnut butter to the yogurt and mix, set aside.

    4. Half and de stone the cherries and set aside.

    5. Unroll the ready-made pie dough (puff pastry), and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or pastry cutter to cut the heart shapes. Once all cut out, take a smaller heart-shaped cookie cutter and press lightly into the pastry until you indent the pastry slightly. This will help the yogurt to stay put.

    6. Use approx half a teaspoon of the yogurt mixture and place onto the pastry, keeping inside the filled heart indent. Repeat and place on the prepared baking sheet.

    7. Top with 3 halved cherries and place into the oven.`The baking time for this recipe is 20 minutes, until they are golden brown.

    8. Leave to cool at room temperature before serving.

Hope you and your family enjoy!

    Recipe notes

If you didn’t want to use cherries you could use any other stone fruit for example peach, nectarine or plum, just make sure the stone is out fully and the fruit is chopped up small. A small plum could probably fit as a half on the pastry.

You could egg wash the outside of the pastry crust using a pastry brush. This is not essential and the recipe does work and brown without an egg or milk wash.

Who doesn’t love Valentine’ s Day desserts! This recipe is perfect for your little loved ones!

You could add a little double cream (heavy cream) into the yogurt to add a little richness to the dessert.
