Can My Baby Eat Frozen Greek Yogurt?

Absolutely! Greek yogurt is a fantastic option for babies due to its high protein and calcium content, which are essential for their growth and development. When considering introducing frozen Greek yogurt for baby-led weaning (BLW), it's important to ensure that the yogurt is plain and unsweetened to avoid added sugars or artificial sweeteners. Freezing Greek yogurt can create a soothing and flavourful teething snack for your little one. Just be sure to serve it in an appropriate size and texture for your baby's age and developmental stage to prevent any choking hazards.

The Benefits Of Strawberries For BLW

Strawberries are an excellent choice for baby-led weaning (BLW) due to their soft texture, sweet taste, and high nutrient content. They are packed with vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system and aids in iron absorption. Additionally, the natural sweetness of strawberries can help satisfy a baby's sweet cravings in a healthy way. The small size of strawberries also makes them easy for babies to pick up and self-feed, making them a convenient option for BLW. However, it's important to note that some babies may be allergic to strawberries, so it's crucial to introduce them gradually and watch for any signs of a reaction. Overall, including strawberries in a baby's BLW journey can provide a delicious and nutritious introduction to solid foods.

Can My Baby Eat Plain Yogurt At 6 Months Old?

Absolutely! Plain yogurt can be a great addition to your baby's diet starting around 6 months old. It is rich in calcium and protein, which are essential for your baby's growth and development. Look for plain, full-fat yogurt with no added sugars or artificial flavours. You can start by offering small spoonfuls and gradually increase the portion size as your baby gets used to the taste and texture.

Frozen Yogurt as a Teething Aid for Babies?

Frozen yogurt treats can be a soothing and nutritious option for babies who are experiencing the discomfort of teething. Its cold temperature helps alleviate the tenderness and swelling in the gums, providing relief to little ones. Additionally, the creamy texture is gentle on delicate mouths and can be a welcome distraction from the discomfort. To ensure safety, it's important to choose plain, unsweetened frozen yogurt without any added flavours or sweeteners. Serving small, age-appropriate portions while closely supervising the baby is essential to prevent any choking hazards

What Moulds Have I Used For This Yogurt Recipe?

The moulds that I’ve used are quite deep so they would be quite a substantial dessert or snack. You can use smaller shapes or add this mixture to a popsicle mould if you have them and they would be on a stick, I know some little fingers can be a bit fussy with what they touch, so if you think your little one would prefer this on a stick mould, this would work perfectly too.

Give these strawberry yogurt hearts a try, for a quick easy recipe using simple ingredients, they are delicious and effective healthier alternative snack or healthy dessert!

    Ingredient information

Natural style Greek Yogurt - Full of protein and calcium. This full fat yogurt is the perfect ingredient for this recipe, and it freezes so well! This yogurt is great as there is no added sugar, great for healthy options in your baby’s diet.

Strawberries - Strawberries are the perfect colour for happy Valentine’s Day and this is one of the main reasons I chose them, you can use your fresh fruit of choice though.

Freeze dried strawberries - These are great in baking so I decided to add a bit of texture to these frozen yogurt hearts. They are so yummy and look so delightful on the hearts. The perfect balance.

    Serving Suggestion

This delicious little snack can be served on their own, if you did want to serve them with anything I would serve with a strawberry dipping sauce, or a smooth nut butter, such as almond butter or cashew butter! They would be great as healthy treats or served alongside a lunch or even as a snack, so versatile and delicious. Great for home cooks who want to make something special this Valentine’s Day, for the whole family to enjoy!

Another great frozen yogurt recipe you could make as an alternative is yogurt bark.

    Storage instructions

Obviously these hearts must be kept in the freezer! They can be kept for up to 3 months in the freezer, stored in an airtight container or freezer-safe container. If you do accidentally leave them out they would make a lovely strawberry smoothie bowl.

Do not refreeze if they have been defrosted, the mixture will be able to be stored in the ridge for up to 2 days.

Equipment Used To Help With This Recipe

Heart Shape Moulds - I used a silicone muffin tray for the moulds that is dishwasher and freezer safe. Really easy to pop out the frozen yogurt!

Nutri Bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.

Airtight Container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

If you wanted to use a different fruit, you absolutely could! Raspberries, kiwi fruit, blueberries, apple and pear would work just as well!

If you do not have the freeze dried strawberries you don’t have to use them, but they do bring something else to these so if you could get your hands on them it will be worth it!

You could use paper straws as the stick to the strawberry yogurt hearts, you may need to cut a hole in the heart moulds.

To make the recipe vegan, you will need to change the type of yogurt to a plant based alternative.
