Easy Tomato Pasta Sauce
This is the perfect 4 ingredient tomato pasta sauce recipe that you will need for a seamless dinner time!
I love it when I create a recipe that sticks! This recipe is a go-to for a quick pasta sauce that my son loves!
I love to use ingredients that are realistic, and what I mean by that is realistic ingredients that most people will have in their store cupboards.
Only using 4 ingredients as well makes for a simple easy tomato sauce recipe that can also be stored and used within the week.
Making a batch of this sauce by doubling the recipe can make for easy dinners or lunches in the future as you can store the sauce in the freezer. Read below for how to store and what to store in.
Ingredient information
Cherry tomatoes - You could also use cherry plum tomatoes or you use tomatoes of the weight of 250g.
Garlic - I have used fresh garlic but you could use garlic granules or garlic powder.
Mixed herbs - I have used mixed herbs but you can use oregano and basil which works perfectly.
Tomato purée - Adds a richness to the sauce which it needs.
Serving suggestion
The tomato sauce is great served with penne or my son’s favourite, spaghetti! I break up the spaghetti into small pieces so it is easily eaten and great as a lumpy texture. You can do this from 7 months.
Orzo pasta works really well too! You could serve along side some dark green vegetables like broccoli and green beans. Grated cheese served on top is delicious too.
Other great pasta recipes: Orzotto, tuna pasta bake, garlic and herb pasta.
Storage instructions
The tomato sauce can be kept in an airtight container and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days in the fridge. Make sure that the sauce has cooled down to room temperature before transferring to the fridge.
You could also transfer into small airtight containers to portion and keep in the fridge for the same time. Or you could transfer to large ice cube trays and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When you wanted to defrost the homemade sauce, you will need to leave in the fridge overnight until fully frosted.
To reheat the sauce, place in a saucepan and heat for 10 minutes.
Equipment To Help With This Recipe
Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
Saucepan - So many pan sets out there but I particularly like to use pans with a non-stick surface for ease of cleaning and ones that are suitable for different types of hob surface.

Notes
You can cook this sauce for longer than 20 minutes if you wanted a richer sauce. I like to cook on low for about an hour. This really brings out all the flavours and makes for a rich delicious tomato sauce.
If you wanted to use any other types of fresh tomatoes you absolutely can. Such as plum tomatoes, or you can use a canned tomatoes. The best tomatoes are the cherry tomatoes for the homemade tomato sauce recipe.
The recipe is great as a dipping sauce or as a pizza sauce too.
Feel free to add in some fresh herbs such as fresh basil leaves.
You could add in a some paprika too if you prefer, (baby’s first spice). This is a really easy recipe to customise.
