Simple Chicken Nachos For Baby Led Weaning
This chicken nachos wth avocado for baby led weaning is so fun I love it, my son is a huge fan too! My little boy loves avocado so I knew he would like this lunch box! Great for your baby’s first baby food.
The tortillas are so easy to make, they are literally just a tortilla cut into shapes and baked. How easy is that?
The avocado smashed and mashed and the tomatoes simply quartered. Chicken and avocado recipes are so tasty and so nutritious.
I thought a nacho themed box that was healthy and nutritious would be perfect for a lunch for little ones. However, this just doesn’t have to be for your little ones, the bento box can be for you too, or for your whole family.
If you are making this chicken avocado recipes for more than one person, all you need to do is double or triple the recipe to how many extra portions you will need to make. A great way to feed the whole family, and for little ones to try new foods.
One of the things I love about Bento Boxes is that if your little one doesn’t finish you can pop the lid back on and save the rest for afternoon snack time. Or save for snacks the next day for a nutritious meal.
This is such a protein rich main meal or healthy snack, perfect for brain development, that can be dipped and dunked that little hands will love! It is great to find fun ways to serve different foods to your baby.
When Can Babies Have Nachos?
Loaded chicken nachos can be introduced to your baby around 6 months old when following Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) principles. A perfect finger food for your little love.
It is crucial to ensure the nachos are well-prepared to prevent any choking hazards. Homemade nachos are the best option for babies, as they allow you to control the ingredients and minimise added salt and preservatives present in store-bought versions.
Remember to offer nachos in an age-appropriate bite-sized pieces for your baby to grasp and chew safely, always supervising them during mealtimes. Its great to find easy ways to serve different food to your baby.
What Are The Best Nacho Toppings For Baby?
For baby meals, the best toppings for nachos include plain chicken strips and avocado, offering a well-rounded mix of protein, healthy fats, and nutrients suitable for babies transitioning to solid foods. These are all a great option.
The great thing is serving nachos with a mild bean chilli can introduce different flavours and textures, adding variety to the meal while ensuring balanced nutritious food.
Be cautious of salt content in baby’s diet especially in store-bought chilli and opt for homemade versions when possible to better control the ingredients and seasonings for your little one, and for health benefits too.
Give this one a go as this will be a winner for everyone in your home.
Ingredient information
Wholemeal tortilla - I use a wholemeal tortilla for extra fibre. But you can use a white tortilla if desired.
Chicken breast - Simply use leftover chicken from a Sunday roast or meal, or you can use pre-prepared chicken breast, try not to go for processed chicken.
Mild cheddar - I have used a mild cheddar for this one as there’s lots going on so I wanted to keep the cheese flavour subtle.
Olive oil - As always avocado oil is a close second for me if you have it to use.
Black pepper - Just the pepper and no salt as always!
Avocado - A good source of healthy fats that little ones need! A great first food for baby. Make sure you do not use an unripe avocados as you won’t able to mash the avocado. You could use avocado slices if you prefer. You could make a creamy avocado using a food processor to make a smooth puree instead of mashed. This will make a really lovely creamy texture.
Lime - Lime juice works perfectly with avocado, the lime wedge is an optional garnish. You could also use lemon juice too.
Cherry tomatoes - Nachos wouldn’t be complete without some sort of tomato. I’ve kept it simple here and yummy tomatoes going solo.
Serving suggestion
As you see I have served this with some blackberries and blueberries, I have chosen these as they are my son’s favourite berries.
However, you can use any chopped fruit or veggies of choice, if you prefer, such as green beans or broccoli.
Other similar recipes include: Butter bean dip, Peanut cheese twists or Pasta shells.

You could freeze the nachos if they are plain without any toppings.
They can store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To defrost the nachos, leave in the fridge overnight until fully thawed.
They will keep in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Airtight container - I love the non-stick surface of this particular frying pan and it’s suitable for all types of hob.
Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
Baking tray - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.

Start by pre heating the oven to 190C or 350F. Prepare a baking tray with parchment paper.
Cut your tortilla into shapes or triangles, I used a small Mickey Mouse cutter.
Place in a large bowl and mix with the olive oil and black pepper.
Place the shapes on your prepared lined baking tray. Pop in the oven for 15 minutes.
For the smashed avocado, place in a bowl and mash with a fork and squeeze over the lime and mix.
Assemble the nachos from the oven into the bento box once cooled, followed by the chicken and topped with the grated cheese.
Add the avocado with optional lime wedge and quartered tomatoes.
Hope you and your family enjoy!
Recipe notes
Why not try melting the cheese if you are making this to eat from home, let it cool slightly first!
If you didn’t want to use chicken, you could add some mashed mixed taco beans to the nachos and use some vegan cheese to make this vegan friendly.
Or use a gluten free wrap to make the whole recipe gluten free.
