    Cheese Straws For Baby

Who doesn’t like cheese and pastry?

If you haven’t tried the combination of peanut butter and cheese you must try it! Your little ones will love it!

You can serve this box from 6 months old.

Just make sure that the strawberries are quartered and the olives are quartered. You can mash the strawberries and blend the olives with a little water if that would make you feel better.

The straws are so easy to make as you will see below. You could make a batch of them so you have snacks ready in the fridge if needed.

Strawberries are a hit with my son at the moment so I had to add them into the box.

Olives can be hit and miss with kiddies I know, but it they haven’t tried them yet I would highly recommend trying them as they may surprise you!

This is such a handy recipe to have. Especially as the ready roll pastry is an easy way to make life so much easier.

I’d love to know what you think of this healthy snack!

Give this one a try your kids and the whole family will love it!

    Ingredient information

Ready rolled puff pastry sheets - I use the ready rolled puff pastry as it’s easy to use and relatively inexpensive. You can also keep it in the fridge if you do not use it all so it’s handy to have in the fridge for last minute lunches and dinners.

Creamy peanut butter - I always use 100% peanut butter as there is no added sugar and salt. You could use cream cheese too if you prefer or if your baby has a peanut allergy.

Mature cheddar cheese - You can use your cheese of choice, Red Leicester works well too!

Strawberries - My son’s favourite at the moment so I had to include!

Olives - If you haven’t given your little ones olives, give them a try!

    Serving suggestion

You could really get creative and mix up what you serve the twists with. You could make a cheesy yogurt dipping sauce, or change up the fruit choice.

If you choose apple, if you squeeze over some lemon or lime it will prevent the apple from going brown.

Other recipes you may like: Cheese puffs, Puff pastry pinwheels, Pizza twists or Apple turnovers.

    Storage instructions

The straws can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, stored in an airtight container.

If you wanted to freeze the straws, you will need to make sure that the straws have cooled down before transferring to either freezer bags or airtight container. Ensure that the bag/airtight container is labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.

To defrost the straws, leave in the fridge overnight and make sure that they are fully defrosted, before re heating.

To reheat, place the straws in a oven proof dish and reheat 180C/350F for 5 minutes. They can be eaten at room temperature.

Once the straws have been defrosted you will not be able to reheat or refreeze.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Baking tray - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.

Airtight container - I love the non-stick surface of this particular frying pan and it’s suitable for all types of hob.

    Ingredients

    Instructions

    1. Start by heating the oven to 180/350F degrees.
    2. Next take your puff pastry and cut into 4 strips approx a centimetre wide and 10cm long.
    3. Spread the peanut butter on all 4 of the strips and sprinkle with the cheese on top
    4. Twist each strip and pop on a lined baking sheet in the oven for 20 minutes until golden.
    5. Leave them to cool slightly before adding to the bento box.
    6. Add in the olives and cucumber into one compartment and the strawberries into the other compartment.
    7. Hope you and your family enjoy!

    Notes

You could blend up the olives to make a sort of tapenade and use it as a dipping sauce if you are worried about giving whole olives to your little ones.

If you are serving this box to a little one who is 6 months old, blend the olives if you like or quarter them and quarter the strawberries.
