    Benefits Of Oats

Oats are a highly nutritious food to introduce during Baby-Led Weaning. They are a good source of fibre, which aids digestion and helps prevent constipation in babies.

Oats are also rich in essential vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc, and B vitamins, which support healthy growth and development. Oats are a great first food for babies to practice their fine motor skills by picking up small pieces and developing their hand-eye coordination.

Introducing oats early on can help babies develop a taste for healthy whole grains, setting a good foundation for their future eating habits.

    Ingredient information

Rolled oats - I have used rolled oats as these are the ones that I buy and therefore always have in the cupboard. You can use any oats you have such as quick oats and steel-cut oats.

Jumbo raisins and cranberries - I have used this mix, but if you wanted to do a mix of raisins and sultanas or just raisins that would work just as well. You can use different fruits the choice is yours.

Chia seeds - A protein hit is always handy to keep little tummies fuller for longer.

Ground ginger - As stated below you can leave this out if you like. It doesn’t make it spicy but I understand it may for some. We all love the added ginger in our home.

Apple purée - I always have apple purée in the in the freezer, stored in ice cube trays. If you had an apple purée pouch you could use this too!

Ground flax seeds - Packed with omega 3! Gives these a bit of grip for little hands. You could add a sprinkle of cinnamon if you like too, which would be a wonderful addition.

    Serving suggestion

The oatmeal bites can easily be served on their own as a substantial snack as they are the perfect size! Or they can be served with some full fat Greek yogurt for dipping which would be a great option.

They are great for lunch boxes as they can be eaten at room temperature.

Other easy snack recipes: Oat cakes, Greek yogurt cookies, Carrot cake muffins.

To defrost the balls, leave in the fridge overnight until fully thawed. They will keep in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.

Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.

Airtight container - I love the non-stick surface of this particular frying pan and it’s suitable for all types of hob.

A vegan friendly oaty snack recipe that is quick and easy to whip up for a healthy option!

    Ingredients

    Instructions

    1. Pop all the ingredients into a food processor or blender and blitz for a few minutes until combined.
    2. Tip the mixture into a bowl and spoon out a tablespoon sized amount and roll into a ball using your hands.
    3. I find if I squish the mixture flat in my hands a couple of times it helps the mixture to roll together more easily.
    4. Once you have all your balls, sprinkle the flaxseed onto a plate and roll each ball in the flaxseed (top up with more flaxseed if needed).

    Notes

If you wanted to make a large batch of these, all you would need to do is double or triple the recipe to make 18-27 balls.
