    Crème Fraiche Pasta Salmon Recipe

Creamy salmon pasta with crème fraiche is an excellent choice for baby-led weaning (BLW) such a tasty dish and great for that picky eater. Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for brain development in babies. The crème fraiche adds a creamy texture and a subtle tangy flavour that babies often enjoy.

Pasta provides carbohydrates for energy, making this dish a well-rounded meal for little ones. Introducing a variety of flavours and textures early on can help develop a child's palate and encourage them to be more adventurous eaters as they grow. This is a great recipe for the whole family too.

Remember to ensure the salmon is thoroughly heated through and flaked into small, manageable pieces for safe self-feeding during BLW.

    Tinned Salmon Pasta

Babies from 6 months old can be introduced to tinned salmon as part of their weaning journey. However, it is recommended to choose tinned salmon that is low in salt and preferably in spring water rather than oil. Before offering tinned salmon to babies, ensure it is thoroughly cooked and mashed to a texture suitable for their age and stage of weaning.

It's important to introduce new foods one at a time and monitor for any signs of allergies or adverse reactions. As always, consulting with a healthcare professional before introducing tinned salmon or any new food to a baby's diet is advisable.

    Ingredient information

Salmon - I have used tinned salmon in this pasta dish but you could use a fresh salmon fillet too such as wild-caught salmon. Cook the salmon first and flake through the pasta as per the recipe. If you choose to use fresh fish you will be able to freeze the pasta for up to 3 months in the freezer.

Pasta - I have used penne pasta, this is a great pasta for baby led weaning. You could use a pasta shape such as orzo pasta or fuselli as well.

Creme fraiche - This is great for blw sauces. You could use plain Greek yogurt too, with a little sour cream.

Lemon - Lemon juice works well with the fish and the herb dill. Brings a freshness to the pasta that is just so tasty. You could use a little lemon zest too with the lemon juice.

Dill - This herb goes really well with fish. I have used dried dill but you could use the fresh herb, or any fresh herbs you may have. Try adding a handful of baby spinach, this would work really well.

    Serving suggestion

The pasta would be great served with some veggies such as broccoli, peas or carrots.

You could serve alongside courgette and quartered tomatoes.

Other similar recipes: Margherita pasta, Tuna pasta bake or Classic spaghetti bolognaise.

    Storage instructions

The salmon pasta with creme fraiche can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 day, stored in an airtight container.

If you wanted to freeze the pasta, unfortunately you cannot. The reason being the tinned salmon has already been cooked, and has been reheated within the pasta bake, therefore you will not be able to freeze as it has been reheated twice which is the maximum.

You will not be able to reheat the pasta. If you have any leftovers you can leave in the fridge for 1 day and serve cold from the fridge but do not reheat.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Saucepan - So many pan sets out there but I particularly like to use pans with a non-stick surface for ease of cleaning and ones that are suitable for different types of hob surface.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
