    What Are Bliss Balls Made Of?

    Bliss balls are typically made from a combination of nutritious ingredients/wholesome ingredients/healthy ingredients such as oats and fruit. My recipe included oats, frozen blueberries, chia seeds, and desiccated coconut which makes for a satisfying snack. The perfect opportunity to introduce these ingredients to your baby’s diet.

    These ingredients are blended together to create small, round snacks that are both delicious and satisfying for your baby’s diet. The oats provide a wholesome base, while the frozen blueberries add a burst of sweetness and antioxidants.

    Chia seeds are included for their high fibre and protein content, and desiccated coconut gives a delightful tropical flavour.

    Combined, these ingredients make bliss balls a popular healthy treat for your baby and the entire family that can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

    When Can Babies Have Bliss Balls?

    My snack balls recipe can be introduced to your baby from 6 months of age. A great baby led weaning snack or breakfast option, with no added sugar.

    These energy bites are a great way to provide your little one with a nutritious and excellent snack using simple ingredients. When making bliss balls for your baby, ensure that the ingredients are age-appropriate and free from any choking hazards (which this recipe is).

    You can experiment with different recipes to find the perfect combination that your baby loves, perfect toddler snacks too. Enjoy watching your baby explore new textures and flavours with these delish blueberry balls.

    Are The Bliss Balls Gluten Free?

    Yes, My healthy snack recipe is gluten-free, but to guarantee they are 100% gluten-free, I recommend using gluten-free oats, particularly for babies with severe allergies or babies who may have sensitivities to gluten.

    By opting for gluten-free oats, you can enjoy my energy bites recipe with confidence that they are safe for consumption even for those with specific dietary requirements. They are power balls that can be enjoyed by all!

    Ingredient information

    Oats - You can use any oats that you may have such as steel cut oats or quick oats, As they will be blitzed into oat flour.

    Chia seeds - You could absolutely leave this step out, or even add in flaxseeds or sunflower seeds for extra nutrition. You could just make this recipe with oats and blueberries.

    Blueberries - I have used frozen blueberries, you could use fresh blueberries, but I feel that the recipe works best with frozen blueberries as the texture once blitzed works well for combining the oats to make the bliss balls. Add in a few medjool dates for added sweetness if you wish.

    Desiccated coconut - You could use flaxseed instead of coconut for nut allergy babies. Or leave this step out altogether.

    Serving suggestion

    The healthy plant-based snack would be great served with a plain Greek yogurt with peanut butter served with a few berries such as strawberries and blackberries. A nutritious breakfast option or convenient snack option with minimal preparation time needed.

    The no bake snack is a great portable treat, perfect for lunch boxes.

    You could roll the energy balls in coconut flour or almond flour if you did not fancy the texture of the coconut.

    For babies 12 months of age, you could add in a small amount of maple syrup to the no bake balls to add a little extra sweetness.

    Other similar snack recipes: Yogurt oat bars, Teething biscuits or Oat cookies.

    Storage instructions

    You can store the bite-sized balls in airtight containers large or small, in the fridge for up to 5 days.

    The bliss balls can be stored in airtight containers or in a freezer bag and kept in the freezer for up to 3 months. Great for bringing out when you need them!

    To defrost from the freezer, leave the bliss balls in the fridge overnight. Once defrosted they will keep for 3 days in an airtight container.

    Do not re-freeze, once defrosted.


    Equipment used to help with this recipe

    Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.

    Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.

    Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

    Ingredients

    Makes 7-8 bliss balls

    • 100g frozen blueberries

    • 100g rolled oats

    • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

    • 1-4 tablespoons desiccated coconut

    Instructions

    1. First blitz the rolled oats and chia seeds in a food processor or Nutri Bullet to make an oat flour. Empty into a large bowl.

    2. Next, pop the frozen blueberries into the food processor or Nutri Bullet with a splash of water or coconut oil and blitz until smooth.

    3. Add the blueberries to the oat flour and chia seeds and mix using a spoon or you can use your hands.

    4. Take approx a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into small balls using your hands, this can be a little sticky. The mixture makes 7-8 balls, depends how big or small you would like them.

    5. Sprinkle the coconut on a plate and roll the balls in the coconut until fully covered. You can leave this step out for nut allergies.

    Recipe notes

    Other fruit combinations can include, frozen strawberries, frozen raspberries to make raspberry bliss balls or frozen summer fruits will all work really well within this recipe.
