Apple Muffins For Baby-Led Weaning
These apple muffins for toddlers are a great recipe for baby led weaning too. They contain no added sugar. Instead, the natural sweetness comes from Bramley apples, which are not only delicious but also packed with essential nutrients for baby and kids.
The addition of sweet ground cinnamon enhances the flavour, making them appealing to both babies and older children too.
The soft, moist texture is perfect for little hands to hold, encouraging self-feeding and exploration of new tastes.
These toddler muffins serve as a healthy snack option or perfect make-ahead breakfast for the perfect treat, helping a balanced diet without overwhelming your little one with all that sugar.
No Added Sugar Muffins
There is no need to use sugar when baking cakes or muffins for your baby and toddler, as natural ingredients like apples and bananas offer a wholesome alternative to sweetness.
By incorporating pureed or mashed fruit, you not only enhance the flavour but also add essential nutrients that contribute to your little one's diet.
These fruits provide natural sugars that satisfy the cravings without the guilt often associated with refined sugars.
You can create delicious snacks such as banana and pumpkin muffins or berry and oat muffins that are both nourishing and enjoyable for your child, making snack time a wholesome experience.
Ingredient information
Bramley apples - I have used Bramley apples as I think these are the best apples for cooking with and fresh apple gives such a great flavour too. They also cook really well and mash easily when cooked, perfect for a baby-led weaning delicious apple muffin treat.
Flour - I have used a self raising flour as this is always what I have in the cupboard. You could use plain flour with the baking powder if that is what you have. The muffins may not rise as much. You could also use a whole wheat flour/wholemeal flour too for a great way to add nutrition to the muffin recipe.
Baking powder - I have used baking powder for extra that extra rise which really works well within this recipe as the muffins rise so much.
Cinnamon - I have used a sweet cinnamon, but you can use usual cinnamon too. Sweet cinnamon is sweet and delicious and great for baking cakes and muffins for baby to add extra flavour and sweetness.
Egg - I have used a medium egg for this recipe.
Milk - I have used whole milk but you can use semi skimmed or skimmed milk or even plant based alternatives if you like.
Serving suggestion
The easy apple muffins would be great served with some plain Greek yogurt on the side with fresh berries such as strawberries, raspberries or blackberries.
You could also half the muffin and spread a little smooth 100% peanut butter to the muffin halves for added nutrition.
Other recipes you may like: Carrot muffins, Banana muffins, Sweet potato muffin or Blueberry muffins.
Storage instructions
Store the delicious apple cinnamon muffins in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
The delicious muffins can be frozen in an airtight container or in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Just make sure the muffins have cooled to room temperature before transferring to an airtight container or freezer bag.
Be sure to label the freezer bags with the item and date, so it is clear how long they can be stored.
To label the airtight container I use masking tape this way it will not ruin the airtight container.
To defrost the muffins, keep them in an airtight container and defrost in the fridge overnight. Make sure they are fully defrosted before serving.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Silicone muffin cups - I love reusable kitchen stuff! These silicone muffin cases are dishwasher and freezer safe and can be used in the oven up to 230 degrees C! Ideal for individual baby portions.
Muffin tray - A non-stick muffin pan that will easily clean any spills from the muffin cases. You will need one of these to easily hold the muffin cases.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
