When Can Baby Taste Ice Pops?
Babies can typically start tasting ice pops around 6 months of age, when they are beginning solids and have been introduced to a variety of flavours.
At this stage, it's important to ensure that the ingredients used are suitable for their age, avoiding added sugars or potential allergens.
You can create ice pops using pureed fruits or vegetables, making sure the textures are appropriate for your baby's development. A great way to try new tastes.
The coolness of the ice pop can be soothing for teething babies, while also providing a fun and tasty experience during the baby-led weaning journey.
Always supervise your baby while they enjoy their ice pop to ensure safe eating practices.
Ingredient information
Apples - I have used a Gala apple for this recipe but you could use any apple that you may have that fits the weight needed. You could use Bramley apples or granny smith apples if you have them.
Greek yogurt - I have used a plain full fat Greek yogurt for this recipe. For dairy free/vegan babies you can use a dairy free/plant based plain Greek yogurt. You can also add in a teaspoon of chia seeds to the food processor too for added nutrition.
Cinnamon - You could leave this ingredient out if you did not want to add into the recipe. Cinnamon goes really nicely with apples, you could also use a little nutmeg instead if you preferred.
Serving suggestion
The homemade popsicles are great served as they are, they are a little morish snack for toddlers and older kids, and great for baby led weaning for those teething gums.
My son loves these and he is 3 years old. You could triple the ingredients to make larger lollies using bigger lolly moulds. They are great as there is no added sugar in them so you can be sure they are a healthy sweet treat.
Other recipes you make like: Milk lollies, Watermelon slush or Smoothie bowl.
Storage instructions
The pops are obviously best kept in the freezer as they are a freezer item.
They can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months which is great! If the pops defrost you will not be able to re freeze.
You could also freeze using a large ice cube tray and place a stick in the middle if you did not have the moulds..
Once frozen overnight you can remove the lollies and store in a freezer bag, so that you can reuse the moulds for more lollies if needed. I tend to do this so I have more on the go.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.
Baking sheet - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.
Mini pop moulds - These ice lolly moulds are perfect for little hands and great for teething! Made from BPA plastic and dishwasher safe, the mould is designed to make 4 individual lollies.

The sweet potato pancakes are a great finger food option for baby and toddler. Why not portion and freeze the raw batter and cook when needed to save time?
