Ingredient information
Bread - I have used a seeded bread for this recipe, from 6 months old its best not to use a seeded bread as it could be a choking hazard, but a wholemeal bread or white bread can be used. You can use fresh bread, old bread, stale bread. or leftover bread. The recipe works great with stale croissants too.
Unsalted butter - I have used unsalted butter for the buttered bread. You could use olive oil or avocado oil too if you prefer.
Banana - I have sweetened with a banana, but you can use apple puree instead which works just as nicely. You could also use dried fruit such as sprinkling a layer of sultanas which would be really tasty from 12 months old. Or you could sprinkle a few chocolate chips for older kids. Perfect for the kids with the sweet tooth, a great way to get them to eat a little healthier.
Milk - I have used a whole milk, but you can use semi skimmed milk too or a plant based alternative such as oat milk.
Cream - I have used a double cream (heavy cream) for the recipe but you can use a single cream too.
Egg - I have used 1 egg to finish off the milky custard.
