This is why I have created a simple toast recipe with different ways to show you that it doesn’t have to be complicated!
My son loves these toppings and this is the main reason as to why I am sharing with you as they are tried and tested!
Ingredient information
Ripe avocado - The perfect mashable weaning food that is delicious for adults and babies. Packed full of the healthy fats too, a great way to add avocado to a meal.
Lemon - I used a touch of lemon juice, to prevent the avocado colouring, plus it’s so delicious with avocado too!
Peanut butter - I only use 100% peanut butter with no added sugar or salt! You could use other seed butters such as sunflower butter or pumpkin seed butter.
Flaxseed - This is great for grip and a little omega 3 boost!
Cream cheese - A great pasteurised cheese that is great for a weaning baby!
Chive - I love chives, and dried chives are great to have in the cupboard to use for these type of recipes.
Banana - Another great weaning food, perfect mashed and sliced. Great for the ones with the sweet tooth.
Cinnamon - A great spice perfect with banana and apple.
Bread - You can use your type of bread of choice for the perfect base for your slice of toast, such as whole wheat bread, white bread or sourdough bread. Using a good toast makes such a different to the recipe.
Serving suggestion
This is a great recipe if you needed a make ahead lunch or even a snack!
You can easily make the toppings and leave in the fridge for up to 3 days or use the ingredients as and when you may need to.
You could serve the toast as part of a lunch so some examples of additional lunch items could be, sliced cucumber, cheese batons, sweet potato or some Greek yogurt.
Other recipes you may like: French toast, Hummus rolls or Cheesy roll ups.
Storage instructions
The toast can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, stored in an airtight container.
If you wanted to freeze the toast, you will need to make sure that the toast has cooled down at room temperature before transferring to either a freezer bag or airtight container.
You can freeze into individual portions if you prefer. Ensure that the bag/airtight container is labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.
To defrost the toast, leave in the fridge overnight and make sure that it is fully defrosted, before re heating.
Once the toast has been defrosted you will not be able to reheat or re freeze..
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Airtight containers are great for this recipe as they will keep the toast fingers fresh for longer. I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
