Can you use Greek style yogurt in pizza dough

Greek-style yogurt can be a nutritious addition to a Greek yogurt pizza base for babies embarking on baby-led weaning (BLW).

Its creamy texture and rich protein content make it a great alternative to individual pizzas, while also providing beneficial probiotics that support gut health with minimal prep time.

When combined with flour, it creates a soft, manageable base that little ones can easily grasp and enjoy.

Simply mix the yogurt with the flour, and top it with healthy ingredients like grated vegetables or grated cheeses to create a yummy finger food that encourages exploration and self-feeding.

2 ingredient pizza dough for baby led weaning

A two-ingredient pizza base is an excellent option for baby-led weaning, providing a quick and easy meal that appeals to both babies and toddlers, which will sort out those pizza cravings.

Made from 2 simple ingredients flour and natural yogurt, this dough is soft yet firm enough for little hands to grasp. For the best homemade pizzas.

It can be topped with a variety of nutritious ingredients, making it a versatile choice for lunch or dinner.

By allowing your little one to explore different toppings, you can introduce them to a range of flavours and textures, promoting healthy eating habits from an early age.

Plus, this Greek yogurt pizza dough recipe is easy to prepare, ensuring that mealtimes remain stress-free and enjoyable. It is a great recipe to get them involved in too as you will be using basic ingredients.

    Ingredient information

Greek yogurt - A great ingredient for baby and toddler for this pizza crust. I love the fact this is a main ingredient in this recipe. it is a great ingredient to make a pizza recipe for baby without the additives you may find in pizza when you buy from the supermarket. Try not to use a fat free Greek yogurt, it is best to use full fat Greek yogurt until they are 2 years old.

Self raising flour - I like to use self raising flour so give the pizza dough a little rise. You can use regular flour such as plain flour too if that is all you have. You could add a small pinch of baking powder to the plain flour if you wanted a rise to the pizza dough.

Cheese - I have used a mature cheddar cheese for the pizza recipe. You can use a mild cheddar or grated mozzarella cheese as an alternative.

Tomato puree - This is a great pizza sauce for speed and flavour. You could use a tomato sauce too if you like. You could sprinkle over a little bit of mixed herbs, onion powder or garlic powder a great way for added flavour.

    Serving suggestion

The easy pizza recipe would be great served with cucumber rounds or batons, broccoli florets or tender stem broccoli, cauliflower florets or shredded cooked chicken.

Feel free to add extra toppings such as ham (better to serve from 12 months old) shredded cooked chicken, grated carrot or grated courgette.

    Storage instructions

The pizzas can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days for next time, stored in an airtight container.

If you wanted to freeze the pizzas, you will need to make sure that the pizzas have cooled down before transferring to either a freezer bag or airtight container. Ensure that the bag/airtight container is labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.

To defrost the pizzas, leave in the fridge overnight and make sure that they are fully defrosted, before re heating.

To reheat, place the pizzas in a oven proof dish and reheat 180C/350F for 4-5 minutes. They can be eaten at room temperature.

Once the pizzas have been defrosted you will not be able to reheat or refreeze.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Baking sheet - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

This recipe is great for baby and toddler. A 2 ingredient pizza dough recipe perfect for lunch or dinner

    Ingredients

    Instructions

    1. Start by preheating your oven to 200C or 392F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper with a sprinkling of flour.
    2. Pour the flour into a large mixing bowl followed by the Greek yogurt. Mix the ingredients together using a spoon.
    3. Bring the dough together using your hands.
    4. Lightly flour your work surface, and place dough on the work surface. Knead the dough for a minute or so and form the dough into a ball.
    5. Sprinkle your work surface with a little more flour, and start making your pizza base by pushing down the dough ball in the middle on the floured work surface.
    6. Keep pressing the dough moving your hand round, pushing outwards forming the crust of the pizza dough. If you get a sticky dough, keep sprinkling the work surface with a little more flour.
    7. The pizza dough should be medium-thin in thickness, and should be approx 5 inches in circumference and a classic pizza shape. There is enough dough for 1 serving.
    8. Transfer the pizza base onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread the tomato puree onto the pizza base evenly.
    9. Sprinkle over the cheese and pop into the oven for 12 minutes until the cheese has melted and the pizza dough starting to turn golden brown. It is important the oven has been preheated and is very hot for the pizza to cook in the 12 minutes of cooking time.
    10. Once cooked leave to cool before serving to your baby. Cut into strips or quarters.

    Notes

The easy pizza dough can easily be made dairy free, all you will need to do is use a dairy free/plant based plain Greek yogurt. Also, make sure you have chosen dairy free cheese for the topping too if cheese is what you would like to use.

To make the recipe gluten free, choose a gluten free self raising flour or an almond flour or oat flour.
